Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 2026
Overview
Airnest is designed with privacy as a default. It collects no personal data and requires no account or registration of any kind.
In short: we collect nothing. No analytics. No crash reports. No advertising identifiers. Nothing you do in Airnest leaves your local network.
This policy covers both apps: Airnest for iPhone and Airnest for Mac, the free companion. Unless stated otherwise, "the app" refers to the iPhone app.
Data collected
The app collects no personal data whatsoever. Specifically:
- No name, email address, or contact information
- No device identifiers or advertising IDs
- No location data
- No usage analytics or behavioral tracking
- No crash reporting to third-party services
Data stored on your device
The app stores only the following minimal data locally on your device using iOS UserDefaults:
- Cursor speed preference — a numeric value you set in Settings
- Scroll speed preference — a numeric value you set in Settings
- Language preference — the language you selected in Settings
- Mac hardware address — the MAC address of your Mac, stored locally to enable Wake on LAN when your Mac is asleep. This never leaves your device.
None of this data is transmitted to any server. It exists solely on your device and can be removed by deleting the app.
Network communication
The app communicates exclusively with the companion Mac app on your local network using Apple's Multipeer Connectivity framework (peer-to-peer Wi-Fi or Bluetooth). This communication is:
- End-to-end encrypted by the MultipeerConnectivity framework
- Entirely local — no data is routed through the internet or any external server
- Limited to touch input events (cursor movement, clicks, keystrokes) and media state (volume, brightness levels)
Third-party services
Neither app uses any third-party SDKs, libraries, or services. There are no analytics providers, advertising networks, or crash reporting services in the iPhone app or in the Mac companion.
Airnest for Mac makes exactly one network request, at launch: it reads a small file on airnest.app holding the minimum supported version, so it can tell you when an update is required. It reads a value and sends nothing: no identifier, no usage data, no personal data. Everything else, every gesture, keystroke and media command, stays strictly between your iPhone and your Mac.
Local network permission
iOS will ask for permission to access the local network when you first launch the app. This permission is required solely to discover and connect to the Mac companion app on the same network. It is not used for any other purpose.
Children's privacy
The app does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. As no data is collected at all, the app complies with COPPA and similar regulations by default.
Changes to this policy
If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a revised date. Given that the app collects no data, meaningful changes to this policy are unlikely.
